BURDENED AND UNAPPRECIATED
Life rushes by. It seems some days all I do is work. Mom, can you; Grandma, I need; Honey, will you…you get the picture. I feel like a mobile service station. Some days I feel burdened and unappreciated.
David had a whole nation to please. His people were drifting from God; he was surrounded by warring nations. Self-doubt plagued him. During all of this, David penned Psalm 8, a beautiful praise of God’s greatness and validation of man.
Oh Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all of the earth! (v. 1)
Is there anything more worthy of our praise than God?
CROWNED WITH GLORY AND HONOR
When I consider your heavens, and the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars which you have put in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. (v. 3-5)
God crowned us with glory and honor! Imagine—we have been given a crown by our creator, and gifted with glory and honor! Doesn’t your head feel noble, knowing a crown sits atop it? Aren’t your shoulders a bit stronger with the honor bestowed on you?
You made him ruler over the works of your hand, and put everything under his feet: all flocks and herds, and the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas. (v. 6-8)
We are not slaves—we are rulers!! Our lot is to make life better for those under us. We need to be accountable, responsible, and respectful. God made us rulers, not owners.
THE BEST FOR THE KINGDOM
Next time I feel weighted down, let me remember it was God who gave me a crown. It may be the best for my kingdom to refuse a request, or deny a favor. It may be best for the Kingdom, and the Ruler, to remember where the power comes from, and focus actions on areas that will increase His praise.
Oh Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all of the earth! (v. 9)

A passionate reader, I began writing as a young girl. After graduating from college, I became a teacher. Over the course of my career, I taught high schoolers, college undergraduates, and public school teachers how to write personal narratives, expository and persuasive essays, as well as poetry and short fiction. I continued to write: publishing professional articles, two textbooks, short stories, and poetry. In 2013, I won first place in Romantic Suspense in the ACFW Genesis Contest.
